Sails of Bliss

Siham Sarawat’s second work Sails of Bliss is a poetry book that speaks about many things of life and nature like love, sorrow, seasons, flora and fauna. She is immensely influenced by the great English poets – Milton, Wordsworth, Byron, Shelly and Keats. Sails of Bliss teaches readers to obey nature and to be one with nature. “A Sunset Song”, “High Hills”, and “Game of Colours” are short poems about aspects of nature that one particularly admires. “The Anonymous Spirit”, “A Burning Desire”, “A Suicide Note”, and “A Claustrophobic Rose” are poems that express and exemplify the process of understanding one’s life and its meaning. “The Birds of Heaven”, and “Sunset in Paradise”, are poems filled with strong imagery, emotion and reflect how one speaker feels about war and natural disaster. “By the Blue Ocean” perfectly captures the ocean’s power, timelessness and beauty of the sea. “In the Fall”, “Autumn Chime” are nature poems. She attempts to capture the essence of a season through the use of sensory imagery. Her attitude towards Autumn is to evoke an image of fall. “Sails of Bliss” highlights the theme that life and nature are inseparable.
